The 904 Wing Annual General Meeting was held at La Nueva Posada on Friday, 9 April. Members received the annual reports of the outgoing President Don Slimman and the other members of the Executive. The President thanked all the members of the Executive for their support throughout the year and also extended thanks to many other members who contributed to Wing events throughout the year.

Following the reports, Past President Ron Hudson, as Chair of the Nominating Committee presented the nominees for the Executive Council for the 2010-2011 year. The membership elected the following officers to serve as the Wing Executive:

Guadalajara Flyers Airshow

Several 904 Wing members and spouses enjoyed the Guadalajara Flyers Airshow on Sat, 24 April at Lake Cajititlan, just north of Ajijic. The highlights of the varied and interesting show were two aerobatic displays, one by Dra. Luisa Romero, an accomplished Mexican aerobatic pilot, and two members of the Red Bull aerobatic team and to top it off, the solo performances of Gen'l Alfredo Mata of the Flyers Team in his Lear 25 Jet with all the performers.

Due in large part to the effort of Wing Past President, Mario Okunsky, the Wing enjoys excellent relations with the Guadalajara Flyers organization. The lucky attendees were welcomed to the VIP section, where ample food and drink were provided.

Wing Members and spouses in attendance this year were: Bill Watt, Ron Hudson & Babette, Ruben Pettersson & Berit, Doug Archer & Leslie, Gerri Schultz, Manuel Cordova, and Mario & Ellen Okunsky. Here are a few photos from the Airshow and our members.

Three 904 Wing Past Presidents become Fraternal Members of the Asociacion de la Escuela Militar de Aviacion (AEMA) Guadalajara Group

904 Wing Past Presidents Bill Watt, Mario Okunsky and Ron Hudson were invited to attend the Comida Bimestral (By-Monthly Meal & Meeting) of the Asociacion de la Escuela Militar de Aviacion (AEMA) - Guadalajara Group at their HQ's in Guadalajara on Saturday May 29th in the afternoon. During the meeting, Bill, Mario and Ron Hudson (in absentia) were inducted as Fraternal Members and received a Membership Certificate. This is the first time that foreigners have been accepted into their fold and we are very proud to be associated with this fine organization of retired Mexican military aviators.

Editor's Comments

After several years as the Editor of the Wing Bulletin "Slip Stream" it is time for me to retire. During the past six years (with one year sabbatical when I served as the President) I managed to put together 27 issues. It has been a pleasure to serve 904 Wing as the Editor, but it is time to bring in a new person with a fresh approach and I am pleased to tell you that Don Slimman has agreed to take over the job.

I will leave you with some wisdom extracted from military training manuals: Bob Rowlatt, Ed

  • 'It is generally inadvisable to eject directly over the area you just bombed.'
    - USAF Manual -
  • 'Any ship can be a minesweeper. Once.'
    - Naval Ops Manual -
  • 'If you see a bomb technician running, try to keep up to him.'
    - Infantry Journal-
  • 'The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.'
    -Unknown Author-
  • 'If you hear me yell; "Eject, Eject, Eject!" the last two will be echoes.' If you stop to ask "Why?" you'll be talking to yourself, because by then you'll be the pilot.'
    -Pre-flight Briefing from a Canadian F104 Pilot-
